How Dive Bands Work: The Science of Color and Depth
Dive bands combine science and adventure to let everyone know you’re serious about your water sports. Dive bands use the simple principle that water absorbs the wave lengths of light in color, keeping you from seeing reds, oranges and yellows—even blues—the deeper you go. One glance at your wrist will give you an idea of how deep you may be.
Red is the first color to have its light absorbed by water, then orange and yellow. Goodbye red at 15 feet—even water at a 5-foot depth will have a noticeable loss of red in the coral and fish around you. Orange is gone at approximately 30 feet and yellow by 40 feet.
Have fun while being fashionable—even your landlubber friends will recognize the international dive flag prominent on your Dive Band.
